Good news! Jack is heartworm negative! The vet thinks his leg is just fine for now and we could find no cause for his swollen lymph nodes. All bloodwork came back just gorgeous and his lymph nodes do appear to be going down. Best guess is that it was a localized reaction to a minor infection of some kind that the antibiotics he was on for his injury cleared up as well.
Jack was found not by the side of the road (as so many of our beagles are) but actually in the road, and a busy one at that. The woman who found him has a lot of experience with stray dogs - seems that people tend to drop them off at an abandoned property near her house.
